Public Schools Week 2022

Public Schools Week 2022

Each year, thousands of educators across the U.S. come together for Public Schools Week, a time for administrators, teachers, specialists, teacher educators, parents and school board members to host events for their communities and discuss the importance of public education.

During Public Schools Week 2022, to be held Feb. 21-25, we are looking at what we have learned and what we are currently experiencing to rethink teaching and learning.

Creating safe, equitable, and engaging schools is a process where everyone can contribute. In a safe, equitable, and engaging school, students, staff, and family members are listening and respectful to one another, and all are actively engaged in students’ learning, well-being, and individual needs.

These terms are simple yet multi-dimensional. Safety includes physical, psychological, emotional, intellectual, and identity. Equity includes how people are treated, the opportunities they experience, and the outcomes that they are enabled to realize. Engagement has behavioral, emotional, social, and cognitive dimensions and involves how and when people are included within school – related activities, how they are involved in those activities, and how they experience their involvement. While we can describe these three words and each of their dimensions, they are interdependent.

Please join us to honor our nation’s commitment to public education year round with #PublicSchoolProud to show some of the exemplary work of educators—especially in these extraordinary times and circumstances.
